Registro: Antonio Lauro (1917-1986)

During Venezuela’s military junta of General Marcos Pérez Jiménez in the early 1950’s, composer Antonio Lauro was imprisoned for his democratic beliefs. While in jail he composed his “Suite Venezolana” of which this piece is the first movement. It’s a strangely searching work that leaps up and down the guitar fingerboard, as though the composer is surveying the territory in preparation for what will follow.
